An Enduring Legacy for Future Generations

When the Geneva Graduate Institute was founded in 1927, William Rappard outlined the ambition:

“The Institute will contribute to reducing mistrust and the influence of secular prejudices and will work towards making our world one, where more justice, more truth and more light prevail”.

A century later, this notion still rings true. International collaboration for peace, justice, and now sustainability, remains our compass.

Over the past decades the Institute has not only witnessed history. Our students, faculty, alumnae and alumni have emerged as leaders and changemakers who have helped shape history, and will continue to do so for generations to come.

Relevant and necessary

The current state of the world makes the Institute more relevant and necessary than ever, underlining the urgency of the issues we explore. Thinking through the interwoven complexity of contemporary challenges is the sine qua non condition of an even more ambitious project - that of re-enchanting humanity to ensure its resilience and survival. The combination of scientific excellence, transdisciplinarity and critical thinking that is the mark of the Institute is key to equip students and professionals with the competences, confidence and sense of responsibility necessary to drive positive transformation in the world.

Turning point

We are at a turning point. International and multilateral collaboration is more vital than ever yet needs a profound transformation to be fit for purpose. To serve peace today, the Institute must leverage its rich legacy and reclaim its pioneering role to anticipate and lead on required changes and new dynamics for diplomacy and multilateral diplomacy.

We need your help to embrace these challenges. The generous support of our alumni and friends is key to our success. Together let’s engage the future. Join us on this journey and let your generosity be the catalyst for change.
