Founders, Consulto

Baher and Basem Higazy, twin brothers and social-entrepreneurs, started together Consulto, a startup building the world’s first virtual clinic specialised in team-based care at the heart of Switzerland. Their venture aims to revolutionise healthcare delivery by democ-ratising personalised healthcare.

Basem and Baher Higazy both studied medicine in Cairo before joining the Institute to pursue a Global Health dual master’s degree with the University of Geneva, which they obtained in 2021. They further honed their expertise while working with leading global health organisations such at the World Health Organisation and Doctors Without Borders.

Trained as medical doctors, the Higazy brothers saw first-hand how health systems and the policies that shape them can fail patients’ needs. Their early experience sparked their passion to improve health care beyond medical practice. Today, their startup stands as one of the most innovative Swiss startups shaping the future of healthcare. Consulto has won multiple awards, notably the Future of Health Grant and awards from the Federal Innovation Agency of Switzerland (Innosuisse), the Fondation Genevoise pour l’Innovation Technologique (FONGIT), the Foundation for Technological innovation (FIT) and the Swiss Federal School of technology (EPFL).
