Of Algerian origin, Fatsah Ouguergouz held various positions in the field of international law, notably in the peaceful settlement of disputes (judiciary, arbitration, conciliation and mediation) within and outside the United Nations, such as Judge at the Administrative Tribunal of the African Development Bank and the African Court on Human and Peoples’ Rights, Secretary of the International Court of Justice, or Chairperson of the International Commission of Inquiry on Burundi established by the United Nations Human Rights Council. He kept close ties with academia, authoring numerous publications and serving as visiting professor at several law schools, Rector of the African Institute of International Law, Associate Editor of the African Yearbook of International Law or Member of the Institut de droit international.
