DEMOCRACY & CIVIL SOCIETY

This research cluster tackles two Graduate Institute's thematics: “Democracy” and “Civil Society”.

“Democracy” questions the nature of democratic transitions, revolutions, and the creation/preservation of the rule of law as sovereignty evolved from empires to nation-states and supranational forms of government, while “Civil Society” examines the role of social movements, activists and NGOs in democratic participation and governance.
