Technology at the Institute

The new technological turn – digital, AI, synthetic biology – creates both unprecedented opportunities and challenges. More than ever, social and human sciences have an important role to play in the exploration of the complex role and place of technology. More importantly may be, they should be at the forefront for the necessary integration in emerging technologies of responsibility and humanity by design.

Marie-Laure Salles, Director of the Geneva Graduate Institute.

The Geneva Graduate Institute has been exploring the question of technology since its early beginnings because of the prominent role technologies have played throughout the history of international relations, and the strong link in particular between technological innovation, security and power. More recently, digital technologies have become a defining feature of contemporary world affairs.
