Artificial Intelligence has been on everyone's mind for some years now. But what impact will AI have on democracy? Should we be afraid of it or, on the contrary, is it an ally, a tool for continuing to build - or rebuild - our democratic processes? What political, technological and social futures might it engender? What makes AI democratic?
The interactive exhibition ‘Cultivating democracy with artificial intelligence’ honours the theme of Democracy Week 2024 - ‘Cultivating democracy’. Held at the heart of Geneva's democratic institutions - the Hôtel de Ville - it will allow you to discover the views of young people in Switzerland on this essential issue. In particular, you will be able to immerse yourself in the collective imagination of Swiss schoolchildren about an AI-powered democracy in 2050, and interact with the ‘Eco-Village’, an AI built by HEAD students. This AI will take you to a future governed by Earth Mayors, a network of AIs built by communities to facilitate and advise local democratic processes. Visitors to the installation are invited to become members of the Eco-Village.
This free exhibition is the result of the Agora (supported by the Swiss National Science Foundation) project Stories of the Future led by a team from IHEID, whose mission is to develop AI knowledge and literacy in Switzerland, particularly among young people. Nearly 150 workshops were held in schools throughout Switzerland as part of the project.
