New Postdoctoral Position in Economics at the Global Migration Centre

The Global Migration Centre is opening a postdoctoral position in Economics for its project Migration and Labor Market Inequality: The Role of Skills, Gender and Trade supervised by Prof. Martina Viarengo, member of the GMC Steering Committee.

For the Global Migration Centre of the Graduate Institute of International and Development Studies of Geneva we are seeking applicants for a Postdoctoral Position in Economics.

The successful applicant is expected to carry out research and contribute to research projects in the area of international migration, education and labor markets, under the supervision of Professor Martina Viarengo.

This position is financed by the National Center of Competence in Research (NCCR) “On the Move”.

NCCRs promote long-term research networks in areas of strategic importance for Swiss science, the Swiss economy and Swiss society.

The NCCR – On the Move is the National Center of Competence in Research for migration and mobility studies. It aims to enhance the understanding of contemporary phenomena related to migration and mobility in Switzerland and beyond. Connecting disciplines, the NCCR brings together research from the social sciences, economics and law.  Managed from the University of Neuchâtel, the network comprises eleven universities in Switzerland: The Universities of Basel, Geneva, Lausanne, Lucerne, Neuchâtel, Zurich, The Graduate Institute, Geneva, ETH Zurich, the University of Applied Sciences and Arts of Western Switzerland, and the University of Applied Sciences and Arts of Northwestern Switzerland.

Requirements:

  • PhD in Economics or related fields Areas of expertise: economics, applied econometrics, migration;
  • Promising publication record;
  • Experience with econometric and statistical software (e.g. Stata, R);
  • Excellent oral and written command of English (knowledge of French would be an asset).

The position is based at The Graduate Institute, Geneva, with periodical travels to the University of Neuchâtel.

The initial appointment will be for an academic year, with a possibility of extension for a second academic year conditional on satisfactory performance.

Starting date: September 1st, 2020 or upon mutual agreement.
