As the challenges facing the global community become more complex and interdependent, global partnerships between public and non-State actors have gained momentum as an essential element of governance across scales and levels, and are identified as a key means of implementation of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development. Despite their anticipated effects, however, we still have limited knowledge on the extent to which the expectations attached to past and current initiatives have materialized. Are existing partnerships actually contributing to the implementation of the 2030 Agenda? Do we have the right tools to measure partnerships' successes and failures? What are the factors and conditions that can increase the effectiveness of partnerships?

Building on the findings of a research project that has been hosted by the Centre for International Environmental Studies (CIES) and supported by the Swiss Network for International Studies (SNIS) since Fall 2017, this event will explore the mechanisms through which partnerships' impacts are brought about, and discuss what lessons can practitioners learn as they seek to establish and implement effective partnerships for the SDGs.

The discussion will be follow by a Q&A with the audience.
