Afghans constituted the single largest group of asylum applicants in most European countries in 2011. Numbers remained particularly high in 2012 and 2013.
Mandated by the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR), the present research aimed to assist the agency in developing protection strategies based on a sound understanding of the mobility patterns of Afghan asylum-seekers and refugees in Europe.
To do so, the research team has reviewed the situation they face in seven countries: Bulgaria, Germany, Greece, Italy, Sweden, and Turkey.
