Migration and Health in the Global South

In the last two decades, the migration-development nexus has not only been largely explored by social scientists, international lawyers and economists, but also by practitioners as well as international organizations. However, the complex relationship between migration and health is still widely overlooked, and accordingly, there is a crucial need  to further probe into their multifaceted interactions from a systematic and holistic perspective.

Human mobility shapes global health and impacts the domestic and foreign policies of departure, transit and receiving countries. Despite its increasing importance, health is too often neglected in the design of migration policies, especially in the Global South. This shortfall is more generally related to the lack of evidence-based knowledge in addressing health within domestic migration policies. Against this background, this research project aims to provide a policy framework in order to better understand the complex interactions between migration and health in the Global South.
