Human rights apply to everyone irrespective of nationality. Yet, non citizen and migrants remain structurally vulnerable to abuse. Against such background, the project questions this tension and the universality of human rights.

About the Project

Migrants’ rights question the universality of human rights. On the one hand, human rights apply to everyone irrespective of nationality or statelessness. On the other, as non-citizens, migrants remain structurally vulnerable to abuse, and even more so when they are undocumented. This tension between rights and reality is further exacerbated by puzzling controversies surrounding the application of human rights to migrants.

Against such a sensitive and complex background, this Research Project analyses the role and impact of international human rights law with a view to delineating the exact scope and content of migrants’ rights. Although human rights law does not constitute in and of itself a panacea, this Project demonstrates that it provides a comprehensive and cogent frame of protection dealing with various aspects of migration.
