Seminar Description

Building on extensive fieldwork conducted in Moscow, Beijing, Shanghai, Tokyo, Hiroshima, New York and Geneva, Kazu and Xinyu will present country reports on how Russia and China seek to influence the global peacebuilding order. These reports are prepared as interim outputs for the ongoing CCDP research project “Coherence or Contestation: Chinese, Japanese and Russian Approaches to the Transformation of Peacebuilding Practices.”

 

About the speakers

Kazushige is a Postdoctoral Researcher at the CCDP and a Visiting Research Fellow at the Russian International Affairs Council in Moscow. He received a Doctorate of Philosophy in International Relations from the Graduate Institute in 2018 and has previously studied at Tohoku University in Japan, the University of California at Davis/ UC Washington D.C. Center, and Russian Foreign Ministry's Moscow State Institute of International Relations. Prior to joining the CCDP in 2014, Kazushige has worked for the International Rescue Committee in Washington, D.C., Columbia University's Institute for The Study of Human Rights in New York, the Mitsubishi Research Institute's Strategic Consulting Division in Tokyo, and the Russian International Affairs Council in Moscow.

Xinyu Yuan is a PhD candidate in Political Science/International Relations at the Graduate Institute of International and Development Studies (IHEID) and is a research assistant of the SNSF-funded project “Coherence or Contestation: Chinese, Japanese and Russian Approaches to the Transformation of Peacebuilding Practices” at the Centre on Conflict, Development and Peacebuilding (CCDP). Before joining CCDP, Xinyu worked for the project “Explaining International Organizations’ Mission Creep: How international Bureaucrats Shape Bioethics” at Global Governance Center affiliated to IHEID.
