Global Governance Debate on “Liberalism and global governance”

To what extent is the contemporary international order “liberal” and “ordered”? What does the threat of its decline mean for strategies of global engagement moving forward?

Prof. Barnett questions whether the notion of an international liberal order is merely a myth developed since the end of the Cold War by Western states. He suggests that liberalism was never critical to global governance, and the future of global governance might not depend on liberalism.
