Martina Viarengo selected as Eisenhower Fellow

Graduate Institute Associate Professor of International Economics Martina Viarengo is one of 25 government, private sector and civil society leaders from around the world selected for Eisenhower Fellowships’ spring Global Program in 2018.

For seven weeks, from April 2 until May 18, the Eisenhower Fellows will crisscross the United States, pursuing individual projects and engaging in transformative exchanges of knowledge and ideas with leading thinkers in their respective fields, before convening in Philadelphia to share observations.

General Colin L. Powell, (Retired), chairman of Eisenhower Fellowships, said “these leaders represent an incredibly talented cohort that is full of potential to serve as change makers. They are committed to the mission of Eisenhower Fellowships, of creating a world more peaceful, prosperous, and just.”

"I am honored to have been selected as an Eisenhower Fellow, and be part of such a dynamic and forward looking global network”, said Martina Viarengo.  “The fellowship will give me the opportunity to acquire knowledge and develop an understanding of state-of-the art online education programmes, and how they can shape the future of learning in countries at different stages of development."

A specialist in applied microeconomics and development, Professor Viarengo’s research focuses on comparative education policy, gender and international migration. She has examined education policy, gender gaps and labor market outcomes in the OECD and developing countries in trying to better understand how to reduce poverty and inequality.
