This Lunch Seminar will expand upon the research contributions from both John Gledhill and Keith Krause, Director of the Centre on Conflict, Development and Peacebuilding, on peace and conflict studies.

In this event, John Gledhill will present findings of his effort (with Jonathan Bright) to empirically ‘map’ scholarly output in the field of peace and conflict studies. He will outline what scholars study (peace and/or conflict) and the relationship between studies of peace and studies of conflict. Keith Krause will then respond by reflecting on the evolution of the field, arguing that recent trends in scholarly output undermine the potential for peace and conflict studies to emancipate, transform, and ameliorate social relations.

  • Speaker: John Gledhill is Associate Professor of Global Governance in the Department of International Development, and a Fellow of St. Cross College.
  • Discussant & Chair: Keith Krause, Professor of International Relations at the Graduate Institute of International and Development Studies, and Director of the Centre on Conflict, Development and Peacebuilding (CCDP).
