How can a state's legitimacy be furthered through the process of peacebuilding? Drawing on extensive fieldwork, Professor Daisaku Higashi argues that one determining factor is the inclusivity of peacebuilders as it generates a domestic behaviour more receptive to peaceful and democratic reforms.

Daisaku Higashi is an Associate Professor at the Centre for Global Education at Sophia University in Tokyo. Previously, he worked for NHK, Japan Public TV station as a program director from 1993 to 2004 and produced numerous TV documentaries, including “Rebuilding Iraq: Challenges of the United Nations” which received the silver medal from the UN Correspondents Association in 2004. With a PhD in Political Science from the University of British Columbia, Prof. Daisaku also worked as team leader for reconciliation and reintegration in UNAMA and held the position of Minister-Counsellor in the Japanese Mission to the UN in New York.
