Report on midwifery regulations in Poland, Hungary, Romania and Denmark

This report analyses midwifery regulations and their effect on midwives and mothers in Romania, Hungary, and Poland, with Denmark as a benchmark. Our comparison demonstrates a discrepancy within European countries in relation to the international standards for midwifery practice. Disparities include scope of practice, lack of awareness of midwives and maternal care services, medicalisation of birth, obstetric violence, shortage, and criminalisation of midwives. We provide recommendations for these countries to address gaps in regulations and better accommodate midwives and their services.
