Land Attribution Processes and Local Communities’ Rights in Central Africa

"The research examines the impact of land allocation processes on international human rights in Central Africa (Cameroon, Gabon, and São Tomé and Príncipe).
The team conducted an analysis of international, regional and local legal and theoretical patterns combined as well asl semi-structured interviews and preliminary findings discussions with experts.
Key findings: the vital role of land recognition for local communities' livelihoods and culture; the need for inclusive reform processes; the recognition of customary rights as the basis for tenure; and improved governance and administration."
