The "digital divide", characterised in particular by inequalities in access to broadband Internet, is a major development issue for many countries. Alongside this digital divide, however, there is also a "knowledge divide", centred around inequalities in the capacity to evaluate and apply knowledge. Equitably addressing this knowledge divide is a key challenge facing the higher education sector, especially in the global South.
