Pilgrimage trips and its related activities have been increasing steadily day by day since the Islamic Revolution of Iran due to Iran’s rapid population growth accompanied by the country’s increased communication and transportation sectors, as well as the apparition of new leisure activities. This has caused wide-ranging socio-economic impacts on women working in both sectors. Women’spilgrimages provide new opportunities for women to gain presence in public spaces as well as in industries linked to tourism, economic and management issues. The purpose of this article is to study the complex relationship between women’s pilgrimage and its effects in different aspects, and to address the key issues of the interaction between pilgrims and tourists with women employed in tourism and pilgrimage sectors in Mashhad
