After recalling the legal and institutional context in which the World Health Organization operates, this paper provides an overview of the internal structure of the Office of the Legal Counsel of the Organization and attempts at categorizing the functions performed by it. Further, it elaborates on the applicable law on which the legal officers rely in the performance of their duties, and the Office's contribution to the development and implementation of international law.
