Legitimacy under pressure the role of electoral observation

The official results of the 2024 Venezuelan presidential election indicate that the incumbent, Nicolás Maduro, won the election with a majority of the votes cast. At the same time, the thousands of printed voting machine receipts collected by citizen volunteers at a local level tell a very different story, pointing to a resounding victory by the opposition candidate, Edmundo González.
