Understanding the Needs and Concerns of the Sri Lankan Tamil Diaspora in Switzerland

The GMC and CCDP were mandated for a study that assessed the needs and concerns of the Sri Lankan Tamil Diaspora in Switzerland. This research sought to understand the nature of the various Sri Lankan Tamil politically active organisations in Switzerland, their main concerns about the Tamil community in Sri Lanka, as well as their linkages with the homeland and with Tamil transnational networks.

This research project has been commissioned by the Federal Department of Foreign Affairs in order to understand the main concerns of the Sri Lankan Tamil community in Switzerland (some of whom are already Swiss citizens) vis-à-vis their community in the homeland, as well as towards the Swiss authorities. This research project allowed for the continuation of Switzerland’s traditional engagement with peacebuilding activities in Sri Lanka, as well as its historical role as host country of Sri Lankan Tamil asylum seekers.
