AFRICAS RISING?
After a century marked by decolonisation and the imposition of a Western development model, Africa has entered the 21st century with a new status thanks to its demographic dynamism, its economic growth, its mineral and energy resources, and its drive for political leadership. It is also being courted by emerging countries successfully challenging the leadership of the West. But African countries continue to face structural issues such as poverty, inequalities, civil conflict and political repression. How will Africas – in their plural dimension – take advantage of their dynamism to overcome those obstacles and write a new page in their history?
