L’Institut a créé en 2018 en partenariat avec la Fondation Pierre du Bois pour l’histoire du temps présent une chaire portant le nom de Pierre du Bois, professeur à l’Institut décédé prématurément en 2007.
La chaire Pierre du Bois a pour mission d’apporter une contribution scientifique majeure à l’histoire des relations de l’Europe et du monde sur le plan de l’enseignement, de la recherche et du débat public. La chaire poursuit également cette mission en organisant un cycle de conférences publiques qui aborde le rôle de l’Europe dans le monde aux XIXe et XXe siècles, par exemple à travers le colonialisme et la migration, mais aussi l'impact que ce rôle global a en retour exercé sur l’histoire européenne.
Le premier titulaire de la Chaire a été le Professeur Michael Goebel, de 2018 à 2021. Depuis septembre 2021, il est Epstein Professor of Global History à Freie Universität, Berlin. Une recherche est en cours à l’Institut pour le remplacer.
The mission of the Pierre du Bois Foundation for Current History is to stimulate research in current history and support researchers and students in this field.
The Foundation seeks to promote current history through a global, international or transnational approach, while also encouraging the exploration of links between the present, past and future, as the study of history enables not only knowledge of the past but also a better understanding of the present and greater action for the future.
Moreover, the Foundation seeks to facilitate the development of international networks and the participation of young researchers in all its activities.
In addition to the Pierre du Bois Chair, the Foundation funds an annual international conference and a prize for the best PhD thesis in international history, which is awarded annually.
