Venezuela has been trapped in a downward spiral for years, suffering a deep legal, social, economic, political and security crisis, in which human rights have been violated, and development and welfare have receded. Since 2014, this has led to more than 3.4 million Venezuelans fleeing the country, of whom about 86% have emigrated and sought asylum in the Region, causing the largest migration crisis in recent Latin American history.

This event will analyse the current crisis and the reasons behind it. How did Venezuela reach this point? What is the current situation of human rights in the country? How is this crisis affecting the rest of region? This lecture will take a more comprehensive analysis of the Venezuelan crisis.
