PhD Paris II Panthéon-Assas

A faculty member since 2003, Vincent Chetail is Professor of International Law and Director of the Global Migration Centre. He is the President of the Board of the Geneva Academy of International Humanitarian Law and Human Rights, Senior Research Associate at the University of London and a member of the Odysseus Network for Legal Studies on Immigration and Asylum in Europe.

Professor Chetail regularly serves as a consultant and advisor to governments, NGOs and international organizations (including African Union, European Union, UNHCR, UNITAR, IOM, WHO). He held visiting research positions at Harvard Law School and King’s College London. As a visiting professor, he has taught at numerous universities, such as Queen Mary University, University Paris II, Queen University of Belfast, European University Institute, University of Paris XI, University of Tunis, African University of Technology and Management and International Institute of Human Rights.

He was awarded 20 research grants of more than CHF 3 million in total from various funding agencies. He has published over 20 books and 70 articles on many topical issues related to human rights, migration, refugee protection, collective security, armed conflicts, criminal justice and legal history. He is General Editor of two book series Theory and Practice of Public International Law (Martinus Nijhoff, Leiden/Boston) and Organisation internationale et relations internationales (Bruylant, Brussels), as well as Emeritus Editor-in-Chief of the Refugee Survey Quarterly (Oxford University Press) and a member of several editorial boards (including European Journal of Human Rights, Cambridge Asylum and Migration Studies, Jus Gentium: Journal of International Legal History, International Journal of Migration and Border Studies).
