Mamadou Hébié is Associate Professor of International Law at Leiden University at the Grotius Centre for International Legal Studies.
He holds a Bachelor of laws from the Thomas Sankara University, a Master of Laws (LL.M.) from the Geneva Academy of International Humanitarian Law and Human Rights, a Master of Laws (LL.M.) from Harvard Law School, a Diploma of Graduate Studies in International Relations and a PhD in International Law from the Graduate Institute of International and Development Studies. He is the recipient of the prestigious Diploma of the Hague Academy of International Law and was awarded in 2016 the Paul Guggenheim Prize of International Law for his PhD thesis, Souveraineté territoriale par traité: une étude des accords entre puissances coloniales et entités politiques locales (Paris: PUF, 2015).
Trained in civil and common law, Mamadou is a member of the New York Bar. He practiced international law as Special Assistant to the President of the International Court of Justice, H. E. Judge Abdulqawi A. Yusuf (2018-2021), as part of litigation teams before the Court and the International Tribunal of the Law of the Sea, as well as in investor-state disputes.
