PhD, Cambridge University 

John Cuddy taught at the Institute from 1970 to 2008 while holding important positions at the United Nations in Geneva, where he rose from junior researcher to Executive Secretary. Prior to joining the UN, he worked in the oil industry and investment banking and subsequently in the central bank, the ministry of finance, and the development aid agency of Canada. He received his PhD in economics from Cambridge University, summa cum laude. Over the years, Professor Cuddy taught Institute courses on development and on trade policy, and is remembered by generations of students as the instructor who taught them econometrics. Professor Cuddy has published four books (Trade Network Projections and International Consistency Tests, The Optimisation of Macroeconomic Policy, Quantitative
Methods in Economics, and International Price Indexation) and thirty articles in scholarly journals or books, as well as authoring or co-authoring nearly a hundred UN documents. In addition to his teaching at the Institute, Professor Cuddy has taught in MBA programmes
in various universities and at the World Trade Institute. He has also been involved in a number of training programmes for countries in accession or recently acceded to the WTO and from 2006 to 2015 taught a Macro-Econometric and Forecasting programme on behalf
of the Institute at various central banks.
