Helena Nygren-Krug works at UNAIDS since 2013, currently supporting the overall coordination of the Joint UN Programme on HIV/AIDS. 1999-2013, she led the work on health and human rights at the World Health Organization (WHO), supporting countries to design and implement policies in the health sector consistent with human rights.

1992-93, Helena worked on the UN World Conference on Human Rights and with the UN High Commissioner for Human Rights (1998-9) on violence against women. She worked as UN human rights monitor in Haiti, 1993, and in 1994 with the Tanzanian Red Cross following the Genocide in Rwanda. 1995-98, she worked at the Carter Center, supporting former US President Carter’s work as a human rights advocate and Liberia’s transition to democracy.

Helena, a Swedish national, has LL.Ms from Harvard Law School and the London School of Economics. She has authored numerous articles and publications on health and human rights.
