Dr. Dominic Eggel is Senior Research Advisor at the Graduate Institute of International and Development Studies, Geneva. He holds a Doctorate (PhD, summa cum laude) and Master in International History and Politics from the Graduate Institute, a Graduate Diploma in International Studies from the University of Technology, Sydney, and a Licence in International Relations from the Graduate Institute. Dr. Eggel’s thesis The Idea of Europe in Classical Weimar: the case of Goethe, Schiller, Herder and Wieland was awarded the Latsis Prize as well as the Pierre Dubois Prize in 2011 and his Mémoire Imagining Europe in the Eighteenth Century was awarded the Arditi Prize in 2006. Dr. Eggel also was a Swiss National Foundation (FNS) fellow at the Forschungszentrum Europäische Aufklärung in Potsdam and at the Humboldt University in Berlin. Dr. Eggel is the author of a book on Herder, an edited volume on the idea of Europe and a series of articles on the historiography of the history of ideas, the historiography of diplomatic history, European civilisation, the Weimar Classics, nationalism and the Saracens in tenth century Europe. Before joining the Graduate Institute's Research Office Dr. Eggel has taught the Institute's Applied Research Seminars for three years (2013-2016) and worked as a representative of the Graduate Institute.
