Washington Chapter goes from strength to strength

Philippe Burrin and Anne Saab attend annual reception of fast-growing Washington DC alumni group

Philippe Burrin, Director of the Graduate Institute, addressed the Washington Chapter at their annual reception, hosted by the Embassy of Switzerland in the US, on 17 February 2016. A record 80 alumni and friends were welcomed by Ambassador Martin Dahinden.

Anne Saab, Assistant Professor of International Law, came to address this year’s topic, Climate Change, Food Security and International Law, before Paul Mathieu (PhD in International Economics, 1987) reviewed the Chapter’s activities over the past year. The Washington Alumni Chapter is celebrating its ninth birthday, and continues to grow with over 300 members in the area.

The Chapter hosts a number of ‘happy hours’ throughout the year and an annual gathering in the autumn, as well as representing the Graduate Institute at the Association of Professional Schools of International Affairs.

Last spring, led by Corinne Deléchat (Master in International Economics, 1991), ten chapter members taught a full-credit course, Economic Policy in Developing and Emerging Countries: A Practitioners’ View, as part of the International Economics programme.

The Chapter continues to support the student body, with a full scholarship of CHF 18,000 for a student who has lived or studied in the US, and a matching grant from the Friends of the Graduate Institute Foundation.

The Washington Chapter has recently launched a LinkedIn group, and encourages all Washington-based Graduate Institute alumni to connect.

This year’s International Alumni Reunion, held in Geneva for all international Graduate Institute alumni, will be held on 3 - 4 November 2016.
