The Slyff Fellowship has been instrumental in facilitating the smooth functioning of my PhD fieldwork. The allocated funding enabled me to participate in international conferences. Additionally, the fellowship supported me in organizing a panel at the EASA conference in Barcelona. This opportunity also allowed me to travel within India and abroad to participate in workshops and conferences, thereby enabling me to take a step forward in establishing academic networks and availing research opportunities. I am thankful for the financial support from Sylff, which has been helping me to lay the foundation stone to build my academic career.
Harshal Sonekar, a PhD candidate in Anthropology and Sociology, investigates the structural factors contributing to malnutrition among children under five in central India. His research focuses on examining contemporary food politics, nutrition services, and how caste is located and influences the provision of nutrition to malnourished children through health system services and other welfare departments in central India. Harshal aligns himself as an anti-caste scholar, upholding the values and principles espoused by Dr. B.R. Ambedkar, a scholar, leader, and seminal figure in the framing of the Indian constitution.
