Panel discussion with the candidates for IOM Deputy Director General

On Tuesday 14 of May, before a full Auditorium, the Global Migration Centre hosted and moderated a panel discussion with candidates for Deputy Director General of the International Organization for Migration (IOM).

The three candidates present shared their views on migration and the role they would endorse at IOM, each highlighting their respective experiences.

Were present:

Ambassador Dr. Suraya Dalil Senior Advisor to the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Afghanistan. Former Ambassador to the UN in Geneva and Ambassador to Switzerland. Candidate nominated by the Government of Afghanistan

Ambassador Mr. Md. Shahidul Haque Foreign Secretary (Senior Secretary.) Candidate nominated by the Government of Bangladesh

Ambassador Evan P. Garcia Permanent Representative of the Philippine Mission to the United Nations and Other International Organizations in Geneva. Candidate nominated by the Government of the Republic of the Philippines

The audience had the opportunity to dialogue with the candidates over questions relating to climate change, health and migration, international cooperation and the place of Latin America on the international migration agenda.
