New Director of Information Service at UNOG

Alessandra Vellucci assumed on June 1 her new post as Director of the United Nations Information Service in Geneva.

Alessandra Vellucci (Diploma in International Law ‘92), had been serving as Chief of the Intergovernmental Support Service, United Nations Conference on Trade and Development (UNCTAD), Geneva, since November 2014, where she coordinated intergovernmental meetings, provided support to Member States, and implemented UNCTAD's documentation programme.

A United Nations staff member since 1991, Ms. Vellucci worked hard to promote the activities of the United Nations for more than 20 years.  From December 2010 until November 2014, she was Chief of the Press and External Relations Section, United Nations Information Service, Geneva, where she organised media-related aspects of high-level events such as the Geneva conferences on Syria, and outreach initiatives such as the 2012 Open Day of the United Nations Office at Geneva.  She also served as deputy spokesperson of the United Nations in Geneva, and provided media-related support to ECOSOC, the Conference on Disarmament, the Human Rights Council and the Human Rights Committees.

Before joining UNOG, Ms. Vellucci worked for UNCTAD in several progressively responsible positions for nearly 20 years, including for the organisation of several ministerial conferences such as UNCTAD VIII, IX and X, the United Nations Summit on Trade Efficiency and the UNCTAD Partners for Development Summit. From March 2003 to November 2010, Ms. Vellucci worked at the Human Resources Development Section of UNCTAD, including as its Chief from September 2007. She was a Public Information Officer at UNCTAD from September 2000 to February 2003, and served as the Focal Point for Communication on Trade Efficiency from June 1994 to August 2000. She joined UNCTAD in 1991 as an Associated Expert on Training.
