Jayita Sarkar, alumna (PhD in International History, 2014), has been awarded the 2024 Bernard S. Cohn Book Prize for her first book, Ploughshares and Swords: India’s Nuclear Program in the Global Cold War (Cornell University Press, 2022). The Cohn Prize is awarded each year by the Association for Asian Studies to most original & innovative first books on South Asia, irrespective of discipline and country. Dr Sarkar is currently Associate Professor of Global History of Inequalities at the University of Glasgow in the United Kingdom, where she is completing her second book, Atomic Capitalism: A Global History (under contract, Princeton University Press). She wrote her doctoral dissertation under the supervision of Professor Jussi M. Hanhimäki.
