On 27 April, PhD students with the support of the International History Department organised Doctoral Day, an annual event which lets students present their research in front of an audience.
Maylis Avaro, Geoffroy Legentilhomme, Amal Shahid, Anais Clerc-Bedouet, Atiya Hussain, Aditya Kiran Kakati, Thomas Gidney, Vassily Klimentov, Frank Afari and Joshua Thew discussed their work during sessions structured around conflict, international economic history and colonialism. The programme also featured a presentation from SNF Professor Sévane Garibian of Université de Genève on the right to truth and how it is implemented in contexts of persistent impunity.
PhD student Vassily Klimentov says “the objective was to give students a first experience of public speaking and of presenting their ongoing research. For the History department it was also a good opportunity for a reunion. Research is very much clustered nowadays and the Doctoral Day was a nice way to learn what people are working on, and how their work is advancing.” You can watch a short video with Vassily below.
