Liberalism may yet need to be in our future, despite claims we are moving toward an illiberal international order.

Our current Global Governance Debates on “Liberalism and Global Governance” continues with Prof. David Sylvan’s response to Prof. Michael Barnett’s post. Using the core notion of liberalism – a limitation on what states can do to individuals – Prof. Sylvan argues that while States can be considered liberal or illiberal, the international order might be best referred as a-liberal.
