Geneva Summer School on Human Rights, Gender and Alterity,

Dates: 28 August-8 September 2017

This unique transdisciplinary course has been developped jointly by the University of Geneva and the Gender Centre. It will enable participants to critically engage with human rights from a gender and a postcolonial perspective.

The innovative concept combines visits to international organisations in Geneva and meetings with internationally renowned experts working in the area of human rights with an introduction to the academic  eld of human rights, gender and alterity.

Topics to be covered include:

  • violence against women
  • human rights and decolonial approaches to justice
  • freedom and emancipation
  • the new international division of labour and migration
  • discrimination against LGBTQI.

These will be addressed using diverse theoretical perspectives including feminist legal theories, feminist and post- and decolonial theories, and theoretical approaches to antidiscrimination law.
