The Geneva Challenge

The Geneva Challenge is a 3 year project for an international competition on how master students can contribute to the post-MDG agenda sponsored by Amb. Jeno Staehelin and which has just received the high patronage of Mr. Kofi Annan.

The idea is that teams of 3-5 master students from different disciplinary backgrounds get together to come up with a structured, relevant analysis and innovative, pragmatic solutions for a development issue. We have received 43 submissions this year from all over the world, including many inter-institutional collaborations.

The steering committee, of which Prof. Viarengo is part, has chosen 10 projects to be reviewed by an independent high-level jury panel, which will select 3 finalists, These teams will then be invited to come to Geneva on 15th September to orally and publicly present their projects at the Graduate Institute and answer questions from the Jury Panel and the audience. Later that day, there will be a prize ceremony, where the winners will be announced, we will have a keynote speech on women empowerment and development by Ms. Irene Khan and announce the competition's topic for the next year.
