Gilles Giacca (PhD International Law ’13) awarded in Washington DC.

Awarded annually by the American Society of International Law's Lieber Society on the Law of Armed Conflict to the authors of publications which the judges consider to be outstanding in the field of law and armed conflict, The Francis Lieber Prize 2015 was won by Gilles Giacca for his book Economic, Social and Cultural Rights in Armed Conflict published by Oxford University Press.

Gilles Giacca got a master degree in International Relations from the Graduate Institute in 2003, a LLM in Public International Law from the University of Essex in 2006 and a PhD in International Law from the Graduate Institute in 2013.

From 2006 to 2013, Gilles Giacca was a Research Fellow and a Teaching Assistant at the Geneva Academy of International Humanitarian Law and Human Rights. He is now Legal Advisor in the ICRC's Legal Division, covering the Arms Trade Treaty (ATT), arms availability and small arms, new technologies of warfare, including remote-controlled, autonomous weapons and cyber warfare and security, the CCW process on autonomous weapons, as well as weapons reviews & Article 36 API. He is also a Research Associate at the Oxford Institute for Ethics Law and Armed Conflict.
