From 5-13 October, visitors of the Geneva's democratic institutions - the Hôtel de Ville -were able to interact with the first exhibition of the Agora (supported by the Swiss National Science Foundation) funded project Stories of the Future, led by Albert Hirschman Centre on Democracy researchers Jerome Duberry and Christine Lutringer. The project’s mission is to develop AI knowledge and literacy in Switzerland, particularly among young people. Nearly 150 workshops were held in schools throughout Switzerland as part of the project.
This free exhibition, entitled ‘Cultivating democracy with artificial intelligence’ in honour of the theme of Democracy Week 2024 – ‘Cultivating democracy’ – welcomed over 350 visitors . It offered an introduction to AI technologies, their impacts on democracy and key ethical principles; immersion into the collective imagination of Swiss schoolchildren about an AI-powered democracy in 2050; as well as interactions with the ‘Eco-Village’, an AI built by HEAD students. This AI propelled the user towards a future governed by Earth Mayors, a network of AIs built by communities to facilitate and advise local democratic processes.
Listen to coverage of the exhibition by Radio Cité Genève and RadioLac.
