CTEI Launches the Geneva Platform for Resilient Value Chains Amid Climate and Geopolitical Challenges

The Geneva Platform for Resilient Value Chains enhances global supply chains vital to clean energy. It fosters confidential dialogues, research, and education to strengthen resilience amid climate and geopolitical challenges.

The Centre for Trade and Economic Integration at the Geneva Graduate Institute has launched the Geneva Platform for Resilient Value Chains (GPRVC), a new initiative aimed at bolstering critical global supply chains. This platform seeks to enhance climate action efforts while addressing the complexities of local manufacturing ambitions and geopolitical tensions.

Anchored in International Geneva’s expertise in trade, sustainability, mediation, and human rights, the GPRVC focuses on supporting value chains essential to the energy transition, including solar PV, wind energy, critical minerals, batteries, electric vehicles, and grids. The platform is committed to ensuring the resilience and inclusivity of these supply chains, recognizing their pivotal role in addressing climate change and global sustainability goals.

A Collaborative Approach to Strengthening Supply Chains

The GPRVC operates as a non-partisan, not-for-profit platform of excellence, working discreetly with policymakers, businesses, and civil society stakeholders to develop solutions that enhance the durability of vital supply networks. Through an established network of in-country partners, the platform aims to provide targeted recommendations on local policy and manufacturing opportunities.

Three Pillars of Action

The platform will serve as a hub for dialogue, research, and education to strengthen global value chains in key industries. Its core activities include:

  1. Facilitating Confidential Dialogues: The GPRVC hosts multi-stakeholder discussions between businesses, policymakers, and civil society actors to identify vulnerabilities and enhance the resilience of critical supply chains.

  2. Delivering Solutions-Oriented Research: The platform provides academic-quality, actionable research tailored to help stakeholders address stressors and seize opportunities in supply chains.

  3. Educating Stakeholders on Geopolitical and Market Risks: The GPRVC works to inform key stakeholders and international institutions in Geneva on evolving risks and strategies to promote resilient supply networks.

A Timely Initiative for a Changing World

As nations accelerate their clean energy transitions, ensuring the security and sustainability of supply chains is more critical than ever. The GPRVC is positioned to offer practical solutions and informed dialogue that bridge policy, industry, and civil society perspectives.

By fostering collaboration and knowledge-sharing, the Geneva Platform for Resilient Value Chains is set to play a crucial role in shaping the future of global trade and sustainability in an era of rapid geopolitical and environmental change.
