The CTEI is pleased to announce additional Visiting Fellows for the 2019-20 academic year.

Jens VELTEN is a doctoral candidate in law at the Leuphana Universität Lüneburg in Germany and scholar of the German Academic Scholarship Foundation. In his research, he explores the EU’s and Member states’ legal limits to control the market access of foreign investors deriving from EU Primary law and Public international law, in particular WTO law.

Prior to joining the CTEI, Jens was visiting scholar at Columbia Law School. He graduated from Westfälische Wilhelms-Universität Münster in 2015 and worked i.a. for the Integrity Vice-Presidency of the World Bank, the German Federal ministry for economic affairs and as a lawyer in Project finance at the law firm Hogan Lovells International LLP.

Paola MARIANI is Associate Professor of International Law and EU Law at Bocconi University, Milan, where she has been in charge of the courses of Private International Law and EU law since 2001.

She is the author of books and articles published in Italian and European journals. She recently authored a book and some articles on Brexit focusing on the implication of the withdrawal from the EU from an international law viewpoint and on the future trade relations between EU and UK.

Paola’s research interests currently focus on EU trade and investments policy in the European context after Brexit. The main goal of the research is to discuss the current models of trade agreements adopted by the EU in the European Region and to assess their replicability in the future relationship with the UK and Switzerland in a scenario dominated by the crisis of the multilateral rules-based economic order and the decline of liberal democracies
