Center for Digital Humanities and Multilateralism Hosts 'Introduction to Computational Humanities and Social Science' Workshop

On September 11th, 2024, the Center for Digital Humanities and Multilateralism held an engaging workshop titled "Introduction to Computational Humanities and Social Science."

Led by Florian Cafiero, a renowned expert in digital humanities and the application of computational methods in social science research. The workshop provided PhD candidates of the institute with a comprehensive introduction to the rapidly expanding fields of digital humanities and computational social science.

Designed specifically for Humanities and Social Sciences PhD students, the workshop focused on equipping participants with the knowledge and skills necessary to leverage computational methods in their research. Key topics covered included Natural Language Processing (NLP), computer vision, and speech-to-text transcription, demonstrating how these powerful tools can augment and enhance research and analysis across various academic disciplines.

Florian Cafiero, whose background spans both the humanities and computer science, offered unique insights into the intersection of these two fields. He guided the participants through hands-on explorations of web scraping, NLP, and large language models (LLMs), highlighting their potential applications and practical considerations.

The Center for Digital Humanities and Multilateralism continues its commitment to fostering interdisciplinary research and providing opportunities for students to engage with cutting-edge technologies that are transforming the landscape of academia.
