Briefing for the UN Secretary General and his Senior Management Group

Carolyn Deere Birkbeck was invited to brief the UN Secretary General and UN senior management on the need for multilateral action to tackle the global crisis of transboundary marine litter and plastic pollution, the important role of the UN in bringing governments and other stakeholders together to address it, and how solving the crisis is critical to meeting Agenda 2030 targets.

Carolyn Deere Birkbeck, Director, Forum on Trade, Environment and the SDGs (TESS), and Senior Researcher at the Global Governance Centre, was invited to give a briefing for the UN Secretary General and his Senior Management Group to share her expertise on the topic of Multilateral Solutions to Marine Litter & Plastic Pollution on 1 September 2021.
 

The briefing focused on the increasing need for multilateral action to tackle the global crisis of transboundary marine litter and plastic pollution, the important role of the UN in bringing governments and other stakeholders together to address it, and highlighted how solving the marine litter and plastic pollution crisis is critical to meeting the 2030 Agenda targets.
