A Bigger World of International Law

Yasmin Naqvi (PhD in Law, ’08) decided to pursue her studies at the Institute because of its proximity to international organisations and the opportunity to find internships there.

Yasmin Naqvi is a Legal Officer in Chambers at the International Criminal Tribunal for the former Yugoslavia (ICTY) in The Hague, where she has worked on the trial and appeal levels since 2008. Prior to joining the ICTY, she worked in the Investigations Division of the International Criminal Court. She previously worked at the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC), the International Law Department of the Graduate Institute of International and Development Studies, and as a legal consultant to the Office of the United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights. She is also a legal practitioner of the Supreme Court of Tasmania and has widely published on international humanitarian law, terrorism and international criminal law. She will soon take up a new appointment as Legal Officer in the Office of the Legal Adviser at the Organisation for the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons.

In this article published in The New York Times, she underlines the importance for students to be exposed to traditional centers of international law.
