Richard Gilmore is the founder of the GIC Group, an international agribusiness company with partner offices in Beijing; Sao Paulo and Bahia, Brazil; Quito; Moscow and Tel Aviv. The company provides consulting, financial, carbon monetisation, food security, and food safety services to global corporate and public institutional clients.
Dr Gilmore is also Founder and Chairman of the Global Food Safety Forum (GFSF), a non-profit industry organisation focused on educational and training activities in Asia with offices in the People's Republic of China (PRC) and Vietnam.
A trade economist and businessperson with a PhD in trade economics from the Graduate Institute, where he was a Fulbright Fellow, Gilmore served as Trustee for Bayer CropSciences, Syngenta Corporation, and Agrium, Inc.
He is currently Trustee in the United States and Canada for Nutrien. He also served as Special External Advisor for the private sector/global food security to the White House/USAID.
Dr Gilmore developed two new carbon financial instruments for agriculture, most notably the CPC (commodity plus carbon) futures contracts and the GIC Ag Carbon Intensity Index (GIC ACH).
Prior to founding the GIC Group, he worked for a number of American and international agencies and organisations, including the Carnegie Endowment for International Peace, the US Senate Foreign Relations Committee, the International Labor Organization's Institute of Labor Studies, the United States Department of Agriculture's Economic Research Service.
In addition, Dr Gilmore is an author of books and articles as well as a media commentator on global agricultural issues. He has appeared on the BBC and NBC’s the Today Show to discuss food prices.
Previously, he has lectured at the Agrarian Institute of Russia, Moscow State University, the University of Aix-en-Provence, Johns Hopkins University SAIS, Harvard, Georgetown and American Universities.
Today, Richard Gilmore is offering one or two students interested in learning more about agribusiness an opportunity to participate in a remote unpaid internship.
GIC is about to launch of a new series of ag carbon emissions reduction futures contracts. They are currently negotiating with the Chicago Mercantile Exchange and will also be listing in Europe.
