Established by the Graduate Institute's alumni, a Geneva-based association has been advocating the city’s role as the world capital for global governance.
With an aim to strengthen ties between International Geneva and local communities, Action pour la Genève internationale et son rayonnement (AGIR) was founded to promote Geneva as being foremost within civil society. Since its inception in 2009, AGIR has organised numerous initiatives, largely through cultural events. This year, AGIR is proud to act as partner in a landmark operation launched by Fondation pour Genève. To celebrate the 200th birthday of Geneva's union with the Swiss Confederation, Fondation pour Genève has launched a bus road show around Switzerland, with an indoor and outdoor exhibition presenting Geneva’s various contributions to the country.
It is said that Geneva is the smallest of the large cities, with diversity at the backbone of its vitality. Indeed, the city is home to 86 international institutions, as well as approximately 1000 multinational companies. The road show is due to complete the final leg of its tour on 27 June, with major festivities to be held from 18:30 at the Geneva Welcome Centre. "Through this initiative, we wish to remind our Swiss compatriots that Geneva, while being strongly international, is deeply rooted within Swiss DNA" says Vincent Subilia (Certificate in International Law, 2006), who is President of AGIR, adding that "Swiss assets are as beneficial to Geneva as the Geneva spirit is to Switzerland".
Alexandre Munafò (Master in International Law, 2007), Marie Barbey-Chappuis (Master in International Relations, 2004) and Valeska Jeandupeux (Master in International Relations, 2005) are also among the founding members of AGIR.
