17th Annual Conference on WTO Law

The Graduate Institute’s Centre for Trade and Economic Integration and Georgetown Law were pleased to co-host the 17th  Annual Conference on WTO Law.  A standing room only crowd of WTO diplomats, Secretariat officials, private practitioners, corporate and government officials, academics and students gathered for the event, held at both the Graduate Institute and the World Trade Organization.  Sessions addressed the Globalization Backlash; Free Trade Under Attack; Brexit and the Legal Consequences for Global Trade Relations; U.S. Trade Policy under President Trump; Trade Remedies; and Making Trade Dispute Settlement More Effective and Inclusive.

The full programme is available here.

The conference was characterised by insightful and incisive discussions.

The conference presenters included invited speakers together with a number of “Fresh Voices”, selected by open competition via a call for papers open to junior scholars. The speakers for the panel, “Free Trade Under Attack?”, were selected by the Academic Committee following a call for papers open to junior and scholars. In addition a number of applicants for the Fresh Voice were invited to present posters.

The 2017 G2 Conference was generously sponsored by Akin Gump; King & Spalding; Mayer Brown; Steptoe & Johnson; Van Bael & Bellis; and White & Case.  It also benefited from academic input and guidance from the Society of International Economic Law, which nominates individuals for the Academic Committee and whose President, Gabrielle Marceau, graciously provided invaluable advice and assistance.

We look forward to continuing the conversation as we plan the 2018 Conference.
